What quality are the video and audio outputs?
SureTake records everyone at high quality and leaves the raw audio untouched for editing.
Each participant's individual video track is recorded locally in high quality: 1080p at 30fps by default, with 4K available to enable for paid plans. Every track is delivered as an H.264 MP4 video file, ready to edit and publish.
Recording in 4K (beta)
4K is in beta while we gather real-world results across more cameras and machines. We recommend testing it thoroughly on your own machine before any real recording sessions.
Turn it on from Show Settings (paid plans only). The host or a producer can also override the quality for a single session from the settings menu.
Up to means each camera records the best it can up to the show's limit, so a 1080p camera in a 4K session records 1080p. Quality can also be set per person: anyone can drop their own recording resolution from the camera menu, and the host or a producer can set any participant's resolution from the Participants panel, which also shows what each camera is actually delivering.
4K files are large, roughly 9 to 12 GB per hour of video, so a strong upload connection matters and uploads keep going after the session ends. The combined backup stays at standard resolution; your individual high quality tracks carry the 4K.
Audio quality
Audio is captured and delivered through a very high-bitrate encoding process. For spoken word it's virtually indistinguishable from lossless. We also deliberately record without browser noise-suppression, so a good mic isn't degraded, and you have full control to do your own processing during editing.
The only processing we apply is a very gentle HPF for rumble, safe normalization, and echo cancellation (only when enabled during the recording session). MP3 and WAV downloads are available in addition to the MP4 video files, for editor compatibility. (The combined backup is captured from the live call, so its quality depends on everyone's connection.)
Why not lossless audio?
SureTake's focus is on reliability, and with the bitrates we capture for mono voice, lossless audio would simply be marketing hype and make the platform less reliable for no reason.
