Roles: Host, Producer, and Guest

There are three types of participants that can exist in a SureTake recording session. Here's what each one means and what they can do.

Host

The host owns the show and runs the session. Unlike guests and producers, who join by a link, the host must be logged into their SureTake account to open the studio.

By default, the host runs everything. They can admit guests, start and stop the recording, and even control guest's audio and camera settings. A host must be in the room before a recording can start, though once it's running, a producer can keep things going if the host steps away.

Producer

A producer helps run a session without appearing in it. They can be heard on the live call when unmuted, but are never seen and never recorded. The one exception is screen sharing: if a producer shares their screen, that screen is recorded and arrives as its own file. Producer's share most of the host's controls, and a session can have only one producer at a time. See What is a producer (and what can they do)? for the full rundown. Available on all paid plans.

Guest

A guest is anyone being recorded who isn't the host or producer, such as an interviewee, a co-host, or panelist. They join with your reusable guest link and wait in the lobby until a host or producer admits them. Once in, they're recorded locally at full quality on their own device, just like the host.
