Host, producer, and guest roles

Every SureTake session has up to three kinds of people in it: the host, an optional producer, and any guests. Here's what each one means and what they can do.

Host

The host owns the show and runs the session by default: admitting guests, starting and stopping the recording, and controlling everyone's mic, camera, and audio settings. A host has to be in the room before a recording can start, though once it's running, a producer can keep things going if the host steps away.

Producer

A producer helps run a session without appearing in it. They can be heard on the live call when unmuted, but never seen, and neither their audio nor video is ever recorded. The one exception is screen sharing: if a producer shares their screen, that screen is recorded and arrives as its own file. They share most of the host's controls, and a session can have one producer at a time, available on paid plans. See What is a producer (and what can they do)? for the full rundown.

Guest

A guest is anyone being recorded who isn't the host or producer, an interviewee, a co-host, a panelist. They join with your reusable guest link and wait in the lobby until a host or producer admits them. Once in, they're recorded locally at full quality on their own device, just like the host.
